Patients in intensive care unit (ICU) who develop AKI have increased morbidity and mortality, prolonged length of stay in ICU and hospital and increased costs, especially when they require renal replacement therapy.
Critical Care Nephrology (CCN) is a new field in medicine that focuses on the issues related to the management and prevention of AKI and its associated consequences, and the provision of renal (and multiorgan) replacement therapies. The aim of CCN is to provide integrated multidisciplinary care in the ICU with coordinated efforts and dynamic monitoring of the patients.
